As of May 20, 2013, Hyundai Engineering's Oman Musandam Gas Plant Project (Site Manager Kim Yong-mook) recorded 5 million hours of work without accidents, and was awarded a certificate by the client, OOCEP (Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production LLC.). The staffs of the site as well as the head office have strived to ensure the safety of the site and get a good result in spite of the country's unstable security situation.
The Musandam Gas Plant (MGP) Project is located on the west coast of Musandam Province in the Sultanate of Oman.
The MGP project is being developed by Oman Oil Company Exploration and Production (OOCEP) to process well fluids from the existing West Bukha platform located close by in Omani waters. Well fluids will be transported from the platform to the MGP through a new subsea pipeline. The plant will produce sales quality gas, oil, LPG and sulphur, and will treat effluents to minimize environmental impact.
The rated inlet capacity of MGP is 20,000 bpd of crude oil, 45 mmscfd of gas and 80 TPD of LPG. A by-product of treating the sour gas will result in 50 TPD of sulphur. There is also a provision for future capacity expansion.
The MGP gas stream will be utilized for generating electricity by a nearby power plant, yet-to-be constructed by others. The processed crude oil will be exported to oil tankers via a single point mooring system. The LPG will be trucked from the plant. Liquid sulphur will be solidified and pelletized and marketed to other industries in the region.
The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for MGP construction was awarded in December 2010 to Hyundai Engineering Company of Seoul, Korea. The design, procurement and site preparation activities have commenced with MGP expected to be commence commercial operation in Q2 2014. The Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) for the offshore production pipeline were awarded to JP Kenny, Abu Dhabi which are now being concluded.
As part of OOCEP's ongoing commitment to social development, and in conjunction with the local community, MGP project will host a program of local community development initiatives including infrastructure development, housing, education and social projects.
In addition to the creation of many employment opportunities for local people, MGP will also provide business opportunities for new and existing local enterprises, and also make a valuable contribution to the local and national economies.
